It was in aid of Meningitis Research and was organised by Tony and Pauline Bell in memory of their daughter Lisa Bell who died in 2006 of meningitis.<br />We will let you know how much the evening raised when the total amount is sorted. We got a great build up from Tony and Pauline before going on stage and played a set of both old and new songs with full band once again. This is our second gig with them and already the songs are really starting to gel together.<br />The crowd enjoyed the set and we even got a few people up dancing to us...that has to be a first....they must have been pissed!<br />It was a real pleasure to play for such a worthy cause and we are now looking forward to the next charity gigs for the CKDCF in October.<br />For anyone who has missed us at the last two gigs we are playing a gig of our own along with ESP this Saturday 13th at the Kirkgate Centre in Cockermouth. Tickets are £7:50. We played mainly songs from Nearly Killed Keith but finished off with Ernie and Well But Poor. We would also like to thank Steve and Lee for doing a great job with the sound.<br />It was great to finish up and then relax watching It Bites play some of our old favourites from our youth. What an absolutely amazing couple of fundraising weeks! First of all we had our charity rock gig as Mad Dog Scone last Sunday which we now know raised £1300 for the CKDCF....watch out for the next one coming your way! Then, we had the annual CKDCF fundraising weekend at the Ship Launch in Egremont which was hosted by Mark Andrews who once again did a fab job of the pub quiz and auction.....who also cost us a bit of money on that bloody dutch auction ( most expensive bottle of plonk and box of Ferrero Rocher I've ever known)!<br />Not sure what the total raised was yet but check out aquariannation.com or ckdcf.org for details.<br />After the auction me and wayne got up and did a set with Francis on guitar and bv's, and Steph Worsley on bv's. Four songs were played from our soon to be released new album before Francis put down the guitar and became our drummer and Steve English joined us on electric guitar for a further four songs from Nearly Killed Keith....it was a real blast to hear the songs as a band again! Next up was the fantastic M T Arms who played a blinding set....nice one lads!<br />Saturday night was race night down at the Ship Launch again, and although it was a small turnout of people (I'm guessing because most people must have showed up on the Friday cos it was packed) it was a really successful night raising a further £800! Absolutely brilliant!<br />But first we will let you know about Steph....we rehearsed with her last Thursday and everything was sounding really good. She had worked really hard on the harmonies and guitar parts but then on Friday decided to catch mumps....agghh! When she told us her sister had them at rehearsals we were joking about turning up to the gig with faces like hamsters.....only thing was she was too ill to turn up! Hopefully she will get well soon and be fighting fit for the next gig!<br />We got there about 8:00 pm (Dom had set up sound and was keen to sound check in between glugs of Magners) but were told not to go on to about 10pm! The pub had a great atmosphere, the bar all in darkness and candle lit tables and everyone said the food was great. The Marratimes showed up as did Lee and Helen, Dale and friends and even relatives. Its a really small pub, so the bar area where we set up at soon filled with people so on we went.<br />We had a great night and so did the audience as they all sang along to Nearly Killed Keith and Coventry. We asked if she was interested in doing bv's at our next gig, The Brook in Cleator on 17th May and she was delighted!<br />Our first goal was to run through the songs from Nearly Killed Keith which she managed without too many problems. Obviously she was a little quiet at first singing alongside two old codgers in a kitchen but as her confidence grew so did her head (she's a Leo like myself) so there was a couple of times when she was supposed to stop she kept singing...the cheek of it, taking away my limelight!<br />There's still a long way to go but we are having another shot this Thursday and I'm confident we will be starting to pull together. Steph even started to play a few small guitar parts which filled out songs like Under My Bed a treat! Watch this space and we will let you know how each rehearsal goes. Went to meet Francis down in Egremont where he was staying. We both set off together with him asking if my car could do 120 mph! Not a bloody chance! So he sets off ahead and we arrange to meet for breakfast at Killington Lake. After that its on to Manchester to the Cutting Rooms Studio where we are met by the engineer, our good friend Jonny Duncan and after a quick crack and set up its down to some serious work.<br />We had two sets of guitar tracks to get down which I finished around 5:30 and then my vocals were to do which were all cleaned up by 10:00! We are really pleased with how it's all sounding and mid week Francis and Dorie will be putting down some backing vocals at the Forge studios in Oswestry. Cant wait to hear the results!<br />Anyway, its all coming to nicely and I'm sure its going to be amazing when its finished. It all kicked off for me on Friday afternoon with a call from Malky(the drummer) to say he and his wife Jane (the B vox) had entered England and would soon be at the Summergrove. When I got there everyone was there and unfortunately I missed helping Mr Clarke and young Steve in with all the heavy PA gear....what a shame! Soundcheck was a whole weird world for me but Francis soon snapped me out of it by telling me to get out of my own arse! Works everytime.Back home to get ready and pick up the family then back for the Charity dinner which was really nice...a quick pint and then FD's speech. Before I knew it we were on stage with a full band for the first time (oh yeah and Mr Dunnery himself ) for the first couple of tunes! We had a great night and were all looking forward to the Saturday. </span></div> <div><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:85%;">Got up Saturday, quick bite to eat and it was off to Whitehaven to watch the football (Rangers and Celtic) with the Scottish crew...one of whom was very happy with the Rangers win but I wont say who to protect his identity!</span></div> <div><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:85%;">Back home, quick change and off to sound check down at the Market hall. We altered the set last minute cos FD kept saying we could'nt leave such and such a song out...it was time! We went on and I can honestly say it was the best gig I have ever had in my life...just amazing! I cant thank the band enough. They pulled it off great. The crowd sang along and were right behind us...it is one gig I will never forget.</span></div> <div><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:85%;">Francis came on next and what can you possibly say apart from....amazing! His band were also great and they just totally rocked! It was unbelievable and well worth seeing again ( after the sponsored walk on the Sunday morning that is which was unbelievably really enjoyable mainly due to the nice day...the first one ever on the annual event. Loads of people turned up and had a great time)! After the walk it was up to Scotland to see the band who were with us all play in John Smith's band Junk who were supporting FD at King Tutts. Like the Market Hall it was a sell out but you could not move! Junk were brilliant (not that I expected anything else guys)! Francis was even more brilliant than the night before and the crowd were the best ever, talk about loud cheers!!!</span></div> <div><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:85%;">Anyway, it was just a brill weekend which hopefully raised loads of cash for the CKDCF. It was a great gig and there was also the strongest lager in the world there which we made the clever decision of pouring on the floor and not down our throats( cos it tasted bloody awful and would have made us feel bloody awful too I guess)! We rehearsed all day Sunday at a rehearsal studio in Glasgow with full band including Martyn this time on keyboards. It took a bit of getting used to cos we are both used to nice quiet acoustic stuff and this was far from it! By the end of the day things were starting to come together nicely so we are all looking forward to getting out there at the weekend and letting you hear it! We set off from Maryport (after taking a cold chicken curry to Wayne's dad which was'nt the best of things to see and smell in the morning) for the two hour or so long journey up to the Heelands! We were met by Malky who led us out to the back of beyond where his house stands and we met his wife, Jane (who is going to sing backing vocals for us at the CKDCF gigs) for the first time. Mr John Smith arrived soon after and rehearsals began. We rehearsed all day Saturday apart from a break for tea when we went to a good old Scottish pub. Jane has done a fantastic job with the harmonies and John has also with the guitars (not forgetting Malky of course on the drum caterpillar)! We would like to say a big thankyou to them for all their time and effort they have put into it.We had a great time and also a very productive one which led us into a great big Scottish fry up on the Sunday morning before the afternoon rehearsals.It all sounded really amazing. We will be going back there again in two weeks time for full rehearsals in a rehearsal room (with a keyboard player this time) so I am looking forward to that! It all kicked off with the CKCDF charity nights (Friday & Saturday) at the Ship Launch pub in Egremont sorted by the one and only Mark Andrews! Loads of people showed up to raise cash for local kids and the two nights were a big sucess!<br />Next came the gig at the Rosehill Theatre on Sunday night. It was kicked off by the Marratimes (well, Ste and Ste, one half of the group) who had a great gig. A quick break was followed by Dorie Jackson who was accompanied by Francis Dunnery himself on guitar and it sounded fantastic! Dorie had to take center stage and did so with ease...we thought we would have a job getting her off!! Only joking Miss Jackson!<br />Next was our turn for our first headline gig since the Mac in Birmingham about three years ago! We had an absolutely great night and cant thank everyone enough for showing up to support the evening! It will be one to stay in our hearts for a long time.<br />No time to enjoy the moment though because it was up early the next morning to set off for the Cutting Rooms recording studios in Manchester. It was time at last to start recording our new album. When we got there we were met by our new found Scottish friend John and Malky who was to play drums for us. Can we just thank Malky at this point for doing an absolutely fabulous job and John for those guitar parts....cant wait for the live stuff boys! Francis did a fantastic jobof producing the album (as if we expected anything else) while Erica worked none stop on her computer! The album sounds amazing already and so one more time we would like to say a big thankyou to Francis, Erica, Malky, John and Jonny (the engineer) who have all got the album off to an exciting start and we cant wait to get working on it again.
